Electrical energy resources are becoming more and more valuable every day due to increasing worldwide restrictions as a result of global warming, carbon dioxide issues and legistations. Fluorescent tubes are the first alternative when minimum electrical energy consumption becomes an issue. Ordinary flourescent tubes however have a number of drawbacks which include short life span of the tube itself and supporting components such as ballasts and starters. In practice, the life span of the lamp is dependent not only on the tube, but also on the life span of the ballast and the starter, resulting in a relatively short period of 1 year. LED technology on the others hand is a more reliable alternative when power consumption and maintenance costs are considered.
